Highclere Park
The Castle is set in hundreds of acres of mature parkland, landscaped in the eighteenth century by "Capability" Brown.
"This is, according to my fancy, the prettiest park that I have ever seen"
William Cobbett, Rural Rides, 1821
Photography
The park offers unsurpassed opportunities for photography and outdoor pursuits. Many corporate clients hold activity days at the Castle, combining recreation time with fine dining prepared by the Castle's own in-house team
managed by our Executive Chef, Peter Ingram. As you can see from these pictures, there is no time of year during which the Park does not look stunning.
The Four Seasons
Summer at Highclere offers many fine Saturdays (and other days!) for the ultimate in dream weddings. Spring and Autumn bring their own colours as trees blossom and fall, mixing the evergreens with the many deciduous varieties carefully planted over two centuries.
Winter at Highclere gives wonderful vistas of snow and ice, with the Castle imposing its silhouette on a hilltop landscape often shrouded in mist. The photographs shown here were taken in the 21st century and are completely unretouched!
The Castles
Jackdaw's Castle, built in1743, is constructed from limestone. The main Castle is constructed from sandstone, limestone and enormous oak beams from trees planted locally before Nelson's time and felled
over 160 years ago. Heaven's Gate, on Siddown Hill to the south of the Castle, is built from red brick. These many different materials mix with the natural landscape to give a stunning
variety of photographic opportunities.
Film & Photographic Shoots
Little wonder, then, that Highclere Park is frequently used for cinema and television filming, as well as being a venue for many photo-graphic shoots for the media industry.
The Park has been the location for the making of films such as "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves", "The Secret Garden", "Eyes Wide Shut" and "Jeeves and Wooster".
