Downton Abbey

The shutters will open and the servant’s bell will ring once again as the Downton Abbey cast and crew return to Highclere Castle to film the highly anticipated feature length motion picture everyone has been waiting for.

It has been nearly three years since Downton Abbey’s final television episode aired, capturing over 10 million of us each week, but whilst it left our screens, it never left our hearts.

The Earl and Countess of Carnarvon are delighted to welcome back old friends Hugh Bonneville, Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Jim Carter and Phyllis Logan to tread the Castle boards in September of this year. Brian Percival will direct following his success of The Book Thief and the pilot episode of Downton Abbey.

Filming is likely to take 10 weeks. During this time, the Castle will be closed to the public but some special guided tours will be available to purchase on our website on days where no filming is taking place.

The Countess of Carnarvon commented “We are delighted to be welcoming Downton back to Highclere again. Julian and the wonderful cast and crew of Downton were part of our lives and we will enjoy our next role with them.”

Gareth Neame, the film's producer, said, "Now, after getting many stars aligned, we are shortly to go into production. Julian's script charms, thrills and entertains and in Brian Percival's hands we aim to deliver everything that one would hope for as Downton comes to the big screen".
